about

The Tesseract Chapel Tape is a long-form collection of movements investigating the clash of liturgical influenced minimalist music and the maximalist implications of technology. Timbres draw from traditional synthesis, granulated microsampled field recordings, stretched human voices, recorded chamber ensembles, etc. The preludes embrace the resultant uncanny valley of sequencing more traditional classical music in a computer environment. Sanctuary I introduces drifting and detuning patches from the EMS VCS3 with granulated layered voices and synthetic organs creating a texture which is manipulated into the rest of the movements. Eventually everything gets subjected to the distorted digital intensity as the influence of experimental noise tapes pokes through and the dynamics of classical form get abandoned in their traditional sense.

These movements were composed and produced between Spring 2015 - Spring 2016. Sanctuary I was initially created for MICA’s Timelapse annual benefit fashion show in collaboration with designer Cindy Stauffer’s line. Post-War Electronica (playing off the movement’s name) features mangled, reversed, and distorted Stockhausen (Stimmung), and Lucier (Sound Patterns) samples deep in the texture. Arrays features string quartet samples resultant from a collaborative recording session with composer Peter Dayton. All keys, guitar, and bass performances on the pieces are my own.
